I will let God love me.
Matthew 22 says36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
I love the simplicity of this. It boils it down. It gets to the point.
However, I can easily feel overwhelmed by the gravity of this command. How can I love God with ALL of my heart? How can I even know my own heart? I want to love . . . I do . . . but the truth is that the reality of this command feels like a lot of effort. And, I thought the good news of the gospel was that this was all about grace, and not effort.
Lead us God. How do we love?
I John 4:19 offers a simple solution: “We love because He first loved us.”
Can you feel the beauty of this? My soul hears this, sighs . . . then cries . . . and then takes a deep, deep breath.
This is the gospel. The absolute Good News.
We only know love because He first loved us. Do you want to accomplish the greatest two commandments? . . . that sum up the entire Bible? Do you want to love God with ALL of your heart? Do you want to love your neighbor as yourself?
If the answer to these questions is “Yes”, then there is one directive:
LET GOD LOVE YOU.
Let God tenderly love you. Let God forgive you. Let God speak over you Words of Life. Let God tell you how much you mean to God.
LET GOD LOVE YOU
YOU CAN KNOW LOVE.
AND ONLY THEN,
CAN YOU CAN START LOVING GOD AND LOVING OTHERS.
Therefore, Ragamuffin, I invite you to pray with me and all the saints,
“God, I will let You love me”.
