I love you My Darling
This post is dedicated to my Darling wife Amy Lynn.
I discovered in the past few months that my Grandpa Charlie used to always call my Grandma “My Darling.”
My grandma pretty well into dimensia didn’t realize he was dying before her eyes. So he wrote a note. A beautiful note, a simple note. “I love you my Darling. Love, Charlie.”
The older I get, the more I love simplicity. The older I get the more I try to pray that way too. I think of how Jesus warned us not to pray like the Pharisees, but if were honest haven’t we all tried to make our prayers sound pretty at times. Maybe pepper them with some acadamia or heavy theological rhetoric? I have.
I even found myself at a group thing wanting to do that, and it felt so good not to, just to talk plainly to the Lord. Praying for a friend to come to know the most dazzling thing I’ve come to know and experience: Abba’s Love. Sounds like a 70’s band.
My new friend & pastor said to me yesterday, after listening to me rabble on about my life long struggle with depression said, “God has really shown you His grace by blessing you with your wife.” Amen. And that word just doesn’t do it justice to how I feel.
We’ve been married four years today, and she has had to put up with so much crap from me. My sin. My self-pitty. My pride. Me. Me. Me…and yet she is so graceful, patient, kind, and loving. Steadfast in her love for me.
I think of Jesus when he said, “I only do what I see the Father doing…” I think of my wife in that verse. I think she has been so loved by Abba, that she is just doing what she has experienced. Or maybe I’m just being a spiritual romantic. Dangerous, I guess, but I still like it:-)
I could ramble on about how beautiful, talented, smart, funny, and breathtaking she is, but there’s just not enough words, or adjectives to describe how I feel about her.
So I’ll just say this: “Amy, I love you my Darling.” Yours, David
